I use it most often for visual art 😄 It's normal that people don't really got around to using it because they don't have a specific use case right away. I learned TouchDesigner in school, so I didn't get lost as I have assignments that help me valorise each different part of the software

AI is not “just a tool” because nothing is “just a tool.” All tools have embedded logic that guides you away from certain courses of action and towards others that its designers have chosen as more preferable. Tools and systems construct us as subjects. The logic embedded within AI is the logic of surveillance, and so AI tools construct us as subjects of surveillance, with an impoverished sense of our relationship to our software. They normalize handing over privileged information and intellectual property without a second thought and try to make recording every screen and click of your PC a default that you have to actively opt out of.

ChatGPT and other AI systems consume more electricity than entire cities and it will only get worse. even if you want to opt out of AI catastrophe, your electricity bills won't, and your liveable climate won't.

The current push for generative A1 is deeply problematic in many ways. In this article I want to focus on the very real environmental damage caused not so much by the technology itself as by the hype surrounding it. In short: - The hype creates an expectation of huge growth in demand for AI. Data centre companies have to start building capacity before demand is realised, even never materialises. As a result, data centre capacity is being built up right now at an unprecedented scale. - This requires electricity generators to provision capacity for those future data centres, even if they would never be used. - Without strong growth in demand, electricity generators would phase out fossil fuel generation because generating electricity from renewable sources is more cost-effective. Because of the AI hype, they are no longer phasing out fossil fuel generation as they want to maximise generation capacity to maximise future profits. New fossil fuel powered electricity plants are being developed as a result and existing ones are kept open for longer
