But I heard they were going to reprint it in the TMNT set!

Wound up with 49 books of a 44-book stated goal (after updating). I'm currently in the middle of several books I started before the New Year, so I'll be posting those in a new thread as I finish. Maybe I'll even write something about each book as I finish with it...

I was glad to finish my reread of Eddings' series(es). I still need to find my copies of the rest of the Mallorean. I don't know that I'll read them again, but I'd like to know where they are.

Next batch from last year. I'll try to be better about this in the coming year! I plan to read ~50 books this year. I'm going to keep reading the Reacher series as long as I can get them. I'm going to pretend that Mistborn is just a trilogy (for now, at least).

Way behind, these are last year's books!

Use your local library! Maybe they can lend e-books through @libbyapp.com! There are other programs they might be able to provide access to! Read!

Who’s your favorite superhero? (Without saying Batman or Spider-Man?)

I think this is right.

The Dragonbone Chair by Tad Williams

Recommended by a friend, this book (and the rest of the trilogy) are dense with lore. It's clear why they are a favorite of George R. R. Martin. Reminder: the tropes explored here were often cemented by these very books; Williams had deep genre impact.

Freakonomics by Levitt and Dubner

An interesting enough read, although months later I'm fuzzy on some of the details. Encourages critical thinking, though, and that's never a bad thing. Question things! Be curious! Investigate! Learn!

Local library loan.

I had no idea, had to dig for it.

Star Wars: Death Star by Michael Reaves + Steve Perry

Now relegated to Star Wars Legends (previously SW Expanded Universe), this book was overridden by Rogue One.

A lot of interesting characterization, and more than a little coincidence, although I guess that might be "The Force."

Die Trying, Reacher #2, by Lee Child

An odd follow-up to the first book, this finds Reacher at odds with a secessionist militia group. It's the first (novel) introduction of Leon Garber, who is fairly important to Reacher's military background. Still some odd UK misunderstandings of America.

Guardians of the West by David Eddings

Continuing my reread of Eddings' 10 book series (that is pretending to be two five-book series). (You know, what I take that back, you could absolutely stop after the fifth book of the Belgariad.)

It's fine.

Old paperback copy.

Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

A great read, but I had to go back and read Gideon again because the author straight up gaslights you in the first ~70% of this book.

I'll probably have to reread the first two before I move on to the third, mostly because my memory's faulty.

From my local library.

A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab

The end of the Shades of Magic trilogy, I think this was the strongest of the three books. Significantly more romance than the first book. The themes of self-sacrifice had me tearing up a bit. Very solid.

Read via @libbyapp.com courtesy of my local library.

Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson

After an aborted attempt to read the ebook of this through Libby, I got the hardcover from my local library.

What a weird ride. At times it feels like a parody of cyberpunk, but I think that's because the tropes weren't tropes then.

Origin of the term metaverse, too.

The Knight and the Butcherbird by Alix E. Harrow

A short story, it's a post-apocalyptic rural fantasy love story (but not a romance) tragedy, of a sort. I really enjoyed it.

CW: body horror, violent death, disease, starvation, monsters (of a sort)

Read through Amazon Prime (exclusive).

Strange Academy: First Class by Skottie Young, et al

A comic that looked interesting that I didn't pick up while it was out. Doctor Strange and most of the magic-related characters of the Marvel Universe set up a school for up-and-coming young mages (and monsters). Fun but not a full story.

A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab
Shades of Magic #2

Not as strong as the 1st book, which could have been left to stand alone, and requires the 3rd book to complete its story. I did enjoy the series as the author explored her Londons and the relationship of magic in those realities. Libby

This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone

The story is as fascinating as the writing process. It is surreal and romantic and timey-wimey. Took me two attempts to get through because I couldn't finish it the first time in the two-week loan I had from Libby. Long waits.
