Apparently there's some kind of construction-related track disruption right near the depot. Not sure what could be done about this, not a surface ops expert.

heard there's some sort of construction related disruption near the depot

the concern here is about overcrowding off-peak though to be sure. Especially a problem on the KGB branch, though I don't go to Surrey enough to be sure.

the north/south routes are showing clear symptoms of death spiral, and I wish I knew what I could do with them. E/W are doing a bit better.

Obviously you could also get the CoV to spend money on bus priority capital projects but lol lmao

There's always Transit's Next Top Funding Model(tm) but I have to think there's some things that we could do that don't rely on some external force coming to save us
December 27, 2025 at 3:27 AM
sure, but I think this kind of raises the question of what exactly they've been doing wrong and what they could do to fix it, if COVID killed a bunch of travel demand and population growth in the suburbs means that TransLink's resources are stretched thin

“Japan’s attitude towards Korea is emblematic of them not really ever having gotten over being given the boot” -ok, defensible take
“Japan wants to literally reinvade Korea” -huh??

As things stand there’s just no incentive for people from Anglo Canada to take French seriously
December 9, 2025 at 10:42 PM
think the only concern is where the TTC will have to cut in order to fund this. I'm not particularly worried since it's not that much money but unless the city is subsidizing this is always the tradeoff

sorry I'm late but this is exactly what they're planning, no?
September 15, 2025 at 9:33 PM
Sure, you’re right, but it’s an anxiety-riddled holdover from all of the “I thought he was my friend until he suddenly asked me out a year afterwards, I feel lied to” stories I’ve seen or heard over the years. I don’t know how to shake it despite me knowing from my own experience it’s not how it is
September 15, 2025 at 7:57 PM
I’ve been like this sometimes and the reason for it is that I get absolutely terrified of bothering anyone. I don’t want to be That Guy especially if some women wanted to be friends with me. I’ve just heard too many stories from girls is all. I know it’s not healthy, but…

I’ve never thought of us as a particularly great food city, but maybe I’m just not looking in the right places.

I suspect the biggest changes would need to be imposed by Victoria, and they've started on that. But I do think the winds are starting to blow the correct way!

I genuinely do think the SkyTrain is the best metro per capita in the US or Canada. Maybe not best overall bc NY exists but not far behind
September 10, 2025 at 11:45 PM
yeah, there's some spikes in density esp in the inner ring suburbs (the centre doesn't as much) for reasons I think are silly

It's mainly that the housing crisis here continues to be really, really bad, especially on a price to income ratio. Much more remains to be done
September 10, 2025 at 11:36 PM
it's a great city! Just prepared for your, uh, bottom line to suffer, especially wrt housing

Wouldn't trade it for anything though. Just needs some more homes, and more trains and buses.
September 10, 2025 at 11:32 PM
A lot of US systems genuinely have better commuter rail. I'd say the NYC commuters, Metra, and Caltrain at least have it better. Certainly Toronto too.

But the SkyTrain is really great where it exists, and I think the bones of the bus network are quite solid.
September 10, 2025 at 11:16 PM
Smug posting: and that's on a branch line, and not even as high as it gets!

We still have a long ways to go though. Our bus system is having similar fiscal issues to a lot of US systems and need a lot of work to be up to standard, and I worry we're being too complacent.
