LNG facilities are rapidly increasing in the United States, bringing with them increased risk of incidents, with any safety failures falling heavily on nearby communities. Yet these facilities are still governed by regulations written decades ago.

On September 13th, 2018, a chain of gas explosions occurred throughout Merrimack Valley, Massachusetts. As a result of this disaster, 30,000 residents were evacuated, 131 structures were damaged, 22 individuals were hospitalized, and 18-year-old Leonel Rondon lost his life.
