Indeed. Far more sensible. If silly.

Thank you. I just looked it up. California in 2018 was slightly better than Alberta. Not enough to be statistically significant for me. I think it’s her experience based on where she was, or what she did. I probably will see fewer smokers because I am not so social?

Thanks! I have been to the Muttart before. I never know what will be in the fourth pyramid. I have been to Edmonton. Just haven’t stayed long.
And not in the middle of winter.

Happy Superb Owl Day!

Here is an obligatory superb owl post, with the Laws Field Guide to Sierra Birds open to identifying various owls in western North America. Note that a new edition of this guide was released Nov 2024. I have yet to look at it.

Marine biology nerds - or friends of one - I have an identification challenge for you. Watched a Schmidt Ocean video on YouTube and this creature showed up. What on earth is it? Cnidaria… but what? Doesn’t neatly fit. I am stumped. It lives on a sea mount Salas y Gómez Ridge.

Went to the Sac Zoo today, and the river otters were unusually playful. Usually they are in the water or hiding in their indoor space. Love these lil guys!

Once a week I meet up online with friends, and we sit together and draw or make other art while we talk. Today I made this:

Hey, back after a social media break. In case you wondered, re earlier post on passionfruit ripening in a bag w a half eaten apple? Most did not fully ripen after 10 days or even 12. Sad state of affairs. They arrived too late in the season to ripen pre-frost.

One of my post-election destress activities has been drawing neurographic abstracts. I trace India ink brush pens around jar or bottle lids for the circles, and coloured pencils as fill. It is relaxing and puts me in a near-flow state.

Today we went to a local farmers market, and my gf picked up frozen spinach & cheese varenyky from UkrFood NOW to try at home. Here is a photo taken of UkrFood at the same market, earlier in the season. I love the origin story :) #ukraine #ua

Okay, so I picked the vines clean, and trimmed back some excess vines so the plant will fit under the frost cover. Below is a photo of my current yield. One fruit is fully grown, and turning white. The rest are smaller and green. I am not sure how much of this will be edible.

It’s chilly here, and I have green passionfruit on my vine. They haven’t ripened yet, but I am going to have to harvest them today as overnight we have our first frost of the season. I heard they can ripen in a closed paper bag, along with a bitten-into apple due to the ethylene? #gardening #9b
