Probably best to go into production with a finished script, but so far they've gotten away with not doing that 30-40% of the time, which is probably good odds in the movie business.

Maybe Rogue One took it to extremes but it's not that unusual for an SW movie to not have a locked in script. Wasn't revealing Vader as Luke's father decided on quite late in production on Empire? I think Ford and Kasdan lobbied Lucas to kill off Han Solo for dramatic effect throughout prod of RotJ

The question is such a neat encapsulation of the British media thought process. “This thing you're complaining about, what if it was good, actually.” or “This thing you like or think is good, what if it's actually really bad, the source of all our ills?”

If I'd had any money in my 20s and was going to invest it, I probably would have bought shares in Games Workshop, which would have been incredibly reckless and also the best financial decision I could have made.
