Also that bit from Del Toro's Frankenstein which is freaky because I did the sketch sometime last year around the same time as I made the Metamorphosis piece.

Ah, nice, yeah, that is a great idea- both the terms get used so interchangeably these days, most people don't realize that they are two different things similar-but still different, and it doesn't help that there is no real proper definition of 'indie' either.

Or like the simplest way- is to look at their credits- if ithey go on for forever and features multiple production studios, especially from third-world countries then its definitely not indie.
(discounting localization, marketing, or voice acting agencies and such ofc)

Having a publisher is a blessing, but it doesn't change the indie aspect too much tbh as long as major production work is still being done in-house by a small team. It is common that the publishers bring-in extra help- but like if that extra help overweighs in-house work then ofc, its not true indie

Points that really make it 'indie' for me-
The active-main team size is comparatively tiny to the point that most people are wearing multiple hats and are actively working on multiple aspects of the game, and paying for 'an outsourcing production studio' is a pipedream, unless you are 'AA' or 'AAA'
