I'm in a similar boat. Some of my group are very good at trick takers, and I play it more for the fun (i.e. I'm not good at them!). I went into a 3-player game of Idle hands having played it a few times, and still ended up losing -68, -40, -15. As long as I'm enjoying pushing buttons, it's a winner.

I taught myself The Coil from @amuristudio.bsky.social after their Kickstarter fulfilled super fast. What a clever game. You use your faction's dice to constantly one-up everyone else, aiming to claim cards from all players according to secret agendas. Very pretty too!
