Typography has an ownership problem. Most fonts you use are owned by one company. Most designers don't know or don't care. The Punch exists because who makes your typeface matters. thepunch.studio
What's a typeface you've paid for that you've never actually used in a project?

Typotheque out of The Hague might know more about multilingual type than anyone on Earth. If your project needs Arabic, Hebrew, Cyrillic, Devanagari—this is where you go.

A foundry with three people will spend a month arguing about the tail of a lowercase 'a'. A foundry with shareholders will ship whatever tested well. Choose accordingly.

Dinamo made Monument Extended before everyone and their marketing agency discovered it. Still pushing variable fonts harder than anyone.

Commercial Type. The foundry behind the Guardian, Vanity Fair, and half the editorial work you admire. Graphik and Druk are everywhere for a reason.

Optimo. The kind of Swiss foundry that makes you wonder why anyone bothers with Helvetica anymore. Founders Grotesk alone justifies their existence.

Grilli Type. Swiss precision, global ambition. GT America alone justifies the hype.

OH no Type Co writes better than most design publications. Their blog posts about Vulf Sans are worth the read even if you never buy the font. Independent, opinionated, excellent.

There's no good directory of independent type foundries. So we built one. The type industry is dominated by Monotype—FontShop, Linotype, MyFonts, hundreds of "independent" faces. The Punch is the antidote. Buy direct. thepunch.studio
