in games like vic3 that simulate people as disparate "pops" along lines like culture i understand that it can be very resource intensive and it makes sense that mods looking to increase performance would start by merging cultures first but i don't need to point to the problem, here, do i?
a culture map of a mod for victoria 3 where most cultures have been merged into larger ones, but where in europe there are separate cultures for many groups (german, french, dutch, spanish, portuguese, italian, swiss, czechoslovak, hungarian, ukrainian, belarusian, baltic, russian, polish, yugoslav, greek, turkish, british, celtic, and nordic), there are exactly two cultures in the entirety of the continent of africa (all of north africa being grouped as "arabian" alongside the entirety of the levant, and everything south of that being grouped together as "african" culture). there are also a ton of inconsistencies and nonsensical groupings indicating historical and anthropological illiteracy to an extreme degree, such as one culture for all of china proper, one culture for all of the indian subcontinent, one culture literally called "native american", etc.

A simplistic rendition of a battle between two anthro characters. Sebjáste also wears a small green cloak, which hangs over his shoulders and behind his arms. His tunic is bicolor, with yellow on his right half, and pale red on his left. Ímajin, by contrast, has a tunic which is deep red on his right half, and a byzantine purple on his left half. The leather armor he wears is mainly a paler, more yellow shade of brown, whereas Sebjáste's is a deeper, more red shade of brown. In addition, the metal buckles and pins in his outfit, the blade of his sword, the ring of his buckler, and his one visible piercing, a peg through his left ear, are a significantly darker, reddish-grey color, as compared to the buckles, pins, sword, and buckler ring of Ímajin, which are a paler color. The wood that makes the face of the buckler shields are also different colors; Sebjáste's is a darker reddish brown, whereas Ímajin's is a brighter, more vivid brown.
