Oh and invest in an ID Badge shaped hole puncher.
That way you can get the plastic snap holders and clip them to any lanyard. It distributes the force better and won't risk ripping through the badge hole over time.

Irregular shapes just make cutting out the laminate fun cause you need to leave enough on the edges so it doesn't peel. And avoiding sharp 90° corners and sharp edges.
