Oh absolutely, and my post was entirely outside the scope of clinical need - can you imagine if we started randomly removing people’s gallbladders or appendixes without a medical reason?

It is seen by some as a ‘socially acceptable’ analogy to FGM… although in the UK many clinicians discourage or refuse to perform it under professional ethical standards. In fact, it’s not publicly funded here unless there’s a clinical need. Re ‘cleaner’ I feel like that’s more a parenting issue 😂

Imagine their endorsement enabling an exception to consent and bodily autonomy because of tradition or the status quo.

Imagine diluting responsibility because the harm is normalised.

Imagine basing this decision on an unchosen characteristic for one group, where it would be abhorrent for another.
