Considering the alternative would be to restart and take exactly the same decisions to that point I don't really think its much of a cheat!
However, some of the books allowed you to make a choice and then every branching path after that point would lead to death, which is really mean! 😅

Pick a number, 1-100, any number apart from the correct one will kill you. It sounds unfair, but then a lot of the deaths are so fun, long winded and silly that I don't really mind at all. It would be dull if you won first try
