i like alterspring because the "discover" page shows, without fail, teenagers engaging in drama that's like completely incomprehensible out of context

you've probably seen this excellent piece around... it was fun to use it in the game's marketing and then in a dramatic, surprising scene that entirely recontextualizes your understanding of what's happening in it

no way... you're in the Cats ending...

in honor of the new year, here's a little thread looking back on the VNs i worked on as a (co-)writer–director in 2025: 🧵

wait, sorry, almost forgot Dennis Cooper's THE SLUTS. at this point in time a nostalgic trip down the memory lane of early internet culture. very edgy in a fun, self-aware way and insanely funny if you can bring yourself to look at it that way

finally, K. J. Bishop's THE ETCHED CITY: couldn't get enough of its unusual storytelling, enthralling mysteries, and brutal moral ambivalence. haunting and dreamlike but progresses so subtly that you just go "wait, did that actually happen" at some point, love love love it

Leslie Marmon Silko's CEREMONY: cheating bc i haven't finished yet, but the sense of place is very good and i like how it uses time and memory. the author's foreword where she explains some background info about writing the novel was already one of the best things i read this year
December 31, 2025 at 3:55 PM
Kai Ashante Wilson's THE SORCERER OF THE WILDEEPS: insanely beautifully written with its mix of literary & vernacular language, worldbuilding so dense it borders on incomprehensible, gay, aka everything fantasy can and should be
December 31, 2025 at 3:50 PM
first, THE SUMMER BOOK by Tove Jansson, a stone-cold classic i was prompted to check out because of the Glenn Close movie (which wasn't very good 💔). endlessly charming and witty, and gets a lot from its episodic structure and absences (Hollywood take notes)

and here's my ranking of every new release i saw this year

the dialogue means almost nothing out of context but there in the film it's so effective & cathartic. can't believe how much hong gets from threatening to swerve into a dramatic climax we've been expecting all movie and then just... not doing it. there's nothing there. live your life
