Like lawyers will follow the structure of a SCOTUS opinion better than a layperson, but you absolutely do not need to be a lawyer to read most of the ones a layperson would ordinarily care about

Often, tho also it is an unambiguously good if people were to get into the habit of reading original documents and not just summaries of them, at least from time to time, if nothing else as a bellwether for whether the summaries you are reading are outrage-bait or fair summaries
