Reducing this charge is simple in principal. Reduce consumption during the five peak hours on the system. The difficult part is timing.

But using #HomeAssistant, timing the peak was simple.

Monitor the load, and the derivative of the load is the slope. When the slope is 0, that’s the peak.

My utility #ComEd, has a hourly pricing program that gives participants direct exposure to wholesale market prices.

My bill includes a line item for capacity that is calculated based on my Peak Load Contribution (PLC)- my average usage during the previous summer’s five PJM system peaks.

This summer I used #homeassistant to manage my usage during PJM’s 5 coincident peaks. Which should save some serious money on my energy bill. #EnergySky
