God I hope so. I'm watching this from Canada and I can tell you we are totally disgusted right now.

It doesn't really matter, because it's not as if the Democrats are going to do anything about it when they get power. Trump tried to stage a coupe and they did nothing. Why would the GOP think anything has changed?

I don't think he'll cancel them. I think he'll just put ICE goons at the polls of left-leaning districts. And, you know, throw out all the mail in ballots.

This is a civil case, so there was no chance of a jail sentence. Also, I'm pretty sure nothing that Cambridge Analytics did could be consider a crime. Unethical, sure. But they didn't steal data: they bought it from Facebook. who were allowed to sell it to them, due to weak data protection laws.

While I agree that those companies need to up their wages, the CEO pay doesn't really move the needle here. Lets take Wallmart: $27M dollars vs 1.6M employees, if you took 100% of the CEO pay and gave it to the workers each would get less than $20. Not an hour or a week: a year. Meaningless.

Hmm, Sourcery by Terry Pratchett came out in '88, so they might have gotten the term from somewhere else...

Also, in my experience, I haven't found much in the way of general use hardware (speakers, printers, webcam, external storage...) that doesn't work out of the box on Linux these days. For 90% of what the average user does with a computer, Linux is going to be a better experience than Win11

This becomes kind of a chicken and the egg issue. Once more people start using Linux, hardware vendors will make sure their devices work with Linux out of the box, or include setup scripts that do the heavy lifting.

Orrrr... They could take the money, use it to buy food, and give that food to hungry people. "Bleeding the beast" I believe it's called.

It's a tie between systemd and nvidia drivers. Although I hear nvidia drivers are getting better...

There, fixed it for you. :)

Yes. A virtual environment is an isolated install (that's the whole point of them), so doing something in another venv can't break it and vice versa.

Hah, I was just about to say the same thing about PEI.

I dunno about that. The Acolyte had 1-2 great episodes, a couple of okay ones, and then some real stinkers. The Mandalorian probably has a better percentage of quality episodes.

Looking at that profile pic, Ren has gotten fat. And bald.

Yeah, the first season wasn't great, but seasons two and three are very good.

Have you tried it with Proton, the wine form used in Steam? That might be a better fit for any graphics-centric app... I seem to recall you being able to just run an installer EXE through the Steam client to install non-Steam software (I installed Starcraft II that way.)

I'm curious as to what the requirement is that keeps folks with Windows now. I mean, pretty much everything anyone uses for "work" is web based or has a web based alternative these days. Linux, Mac, Chromebook, there seems to be plenty of alternatives.

I would think you'd be better off going the opposite route. Get the AI to do the marketing, and get people to build the product. AI is relentless and better at talking to people than writing code.

Heh, I was setting up a Windows 10 box after an office move last week and had the same thing happen. 10 minutes after boot the startup programs were still coming up and prompting for things. So Microsoft hasn't gotten any better...

Gotta admin, having your big hit song use the phrase "take me out" and naming yourself after a famous political assassination is pretty f'ing Metal. Dethlok would approve.
