The Oklahoma Governor and state courts have argued McGirt applies only to major crimes. Notably, the Oklahoma AG and other legal experts (e.g., Robert Miller, an ASU law professor and an expert on McGirt) argue tribes *do* have a right to enforce their own hunting rights on their reservations.

“In a new lawsuit, the Cherokee, Chickasaw and Choctaw nations contend the McGirt ruling affirms their right to regulate hunting by their members on their reservations. They say their authority is backed up by treaties, federal law and their inherent sovereign powers.”

Recall the 2020 SCOTUS decision in McGirt: it reaffirmed an 1866 federal treaty with the Creek Nation, acknowledging the federal gov’t (supreme law of the land) views a large portion of Oklahoma belongs to indigenous tribes, a BIG win for indigenous folks whose sovereignty rights tend to be ignored.

LA specific, but on a related note, RE: repair shops that are NOT free of charge, this is high-key why I love the San Fernando Valley. Other Angelenos hate on the SFV, but it's one of the best parts of LA to find repair shops. Need a shoe repair jawn? Oven repair jawn? Vacuum repair? Go to the SFV.
