The reason people so easily dismiss this parallel is because the population of philadelphia includes people like themselves. They could see it happening to them. They do not see us as “normal people”, however, so they do not feel threatened by actions taken against us.

If an attack does literally nothing 90% of the time you aren’t gonna bother testing to see if this fight is in that 10%, you’re gonna do a thing you know will work even if it’s maybe not completely optimal.

No, imo the fundamental issue is lack of transparency/feedback. An attack being effective in terms of elemental damage is the rule not the exception. A status effect being effective is the exception, not the rule, and not something you can typically determine in advance or intuit.

I’d also like to add, while this is extreme and uncertain to happen, if they are given the ability to revert our social security records then that means the federal government has the authority to modify or revoke citizenship documents. Let that sink in a bit.

For those of us without an existing valid passport and who already have identifying documents changed we likely cannot even choose a passport matching our birth sex.
The supporting paperwork won’t match.

I’ve honestly just kinda always existed in an attitude of “Does this harm other people? Then why not just let them live that way.” regarding basically every socially progressive thing.
I didn’t know, or understand, gay people as a kid. I also was very “…So what’s the problem?”
