Biden even supported a revamped one. The enemy to better healthcare isn't establishment democrats who as a policy support www.vox.com/2019/7/16/20.... Say Joe Biden publicly called for medicare for all in 2021, do you think after getting he could have persuaded at a minimum Manchin and Sinema?
Joe Biden’s health care plan, explained
It’s not Medicare-for-all, but if it happened it would be a big, um, deal.

Voting for a president doesn't make policy poof into magic. In either 2016 or 2020 do you think that if Bernie Sanders had won, there would have been a majority in the house or senate for medicare for all? In both 2016 and 2020 the candidates supported a public option.

It's still a problem that private equity is close to many in the democratic party.

Also the problem in 2011 wasn't that they were trying to cut the deficit without cutting defense, the problem was that they were even doing austerity at that point. More defense spending than less would have been better because it would have provided Keynesian stimulus.

Also you fail to consider that some politicians like Manchin just have fiscally conservative beliefs. For example Manchin despite not supporting BBB, supported corporate tax increases and taxes on the rich archive.today/CVbnc If you wanted to blame someone for being plutocratic blame Sinema more.

There wasn't a push for austerity like before, heading into Obama's second term, is was just that the Bush Tax cuts were expiring so it was an opportunity for deficit reduction in the form of tax increases. In your source it doesn't even say it was a major influence among democrats or Obama.

Obama had focused on deficit before it had even started with the Simpson Bowels and other deficit reduction plans starting in 2010-2011 before it started. Some of the people who had worked on Simpson Bowels worked on Fix the Debt but only some.

Weren't liberal critics of Volcker calling for wage restraint and price controls instead of interest rate hikes not letting wages just continue to increase? The main problem with Volcker was that he raised interest rates higher than they needed and when some of the inflation was due to oil shocks
