Glass elevator shafts and access corridors display decoration typically found only in art museums. Even light fixtures and ventilation covers are worthy of note, with no expense or detail spared.

A twenty-foot high piece of reinforced glass, being the wall to an elevator shaft on the RMS Queen Mary. inlaid into the glass is an art deco representation of the three-funnelled ship, as well as a small tug/steamer coming to meet it. A wooden door/archway with figures carved into the wood both along the wall and in the ceiling. Visible are intricate images of a Mexican cowboy wearing a large sombrero, a hunter with a rifle wearing naval gear, and a family of three dogs sleeping in the grass. A circular art deco light fixture in the Verandah bar of the RMS Queen Mary. The design is reminiscent of 1930s science fiction, and is in the shape of a flying disc. Silver stars are prominent, as is a large protruding centrally-lit globe. Glass leafs/wings emanate from the edge of the circular wall of the fixture. A ventilation cover in the Verandah bar of the RMS Queen Mary. The cover is rounded and extends around a rounded corner of the room. The design is reminiscent of a metallic musical score, although no musical notes are seen. Instead, an intricate custom pattern is created which could be interpreted in a number of ways.

A black and white photograph scan, almost in a postcard style with a thick white border, thicker along the bottom length and upon which is printed "Photographed on board RMS Queen Mary". The picture is a dining room aboard the ship, side onto a table against the hull wall where a porthole window is set high up with tied-back curtains either side. The table is set for four people with plates of food and side plates with bread rolls on them, a small vase of flowers, and a board with the number 35 on it. On the left side of the table as we look there is a young boy in short-sleeved shirt with a young woman nearer us; she's wearing a sleeveless dress and her hair is piled high on her head. On the right is an older couple. The man wears a dark suit and tie over a white shirt. The woman has a white cardigan over a patterned dress. Everyone is turning towards the camera with a smile for the souvenir photo shot.

58 years ago today, the RMS Queen Mary sailed into Long Beach, California where she has faithfully served the community longer than when she was at sea. The world is so fortunate to have the official troopship of our Greatest generation available to us. Happy Anniversary Queen Mary!
