We’ve been in Paris this week and are heading home today.
Queuing for the Eurostar at Gare du Nord was a rather painful experience, but gave nice views across the platforms.
Belgian visitor #SNCB / #NMBS 1830 is seen basking in the sunshine, having terminated with a Brussels service.

One of the guys brought this over for todays HO layout running session - a #Rapido VIA Turbo train. I’m not a big fan of pointy-nosed passenger trains but this was a very impressive model.
The coaches are articulated, with a single wheelset under the ends. And to my surprise it ran very smoothly.

One of the guys brought this over for todays HO layout running session - a #Rapido VIA Turbo train. I’m not a big fan of pointy-nosed passenger trains but this was a very impressive model.

Mostyn is a parade of Sulzer and English Electric power. The sound fitted locos were great too.

I went to the London Festival of Railway Modelling at Alexandra Palace today. I do enjoy the venue - light and airy and the facilities are very good.
Didn’t see too much as I was helping to operate Collingwood. Staging is cassettes, so really keeps us on our toes!

Daughter was given a 3D printer a while back and we gave it a go yesterday.
This little pig (about 2”/5cm dia.) took 3h45m to print(!), plus lots of clean-up afterwards.
Amazing technology but I don’t have the time for it. Hats-off to those that do though.

The scrapyard crane arrived today. It’s a fairly basic model but will do the job nicely with weathering. I’ll also need to make an electro-magnet for it.
Prototype is a Coles Argus. This was new to me, but now I’ve got one I’ll probably spot them on layouts everywhere! 😀

I think I may need to add a little more ballast in places as it hasn’t covered the ground. I’ll decide once it’s all dry.

Finally ballasted the points tonight, but will glue it down tomorrow.
Have to say I will be a little apprehensive about doing that - I haven’t ballasted points for over a decade! Just need to keep the glue away from the moveable parts… 🫣

I took my daughter to an anime and gaming convention today. Now I get it when my children say “But we don’t want to see a model train show”! 😀
There was some amazing artwork on display but I think I’ll stick to trains. And well done to the people who came dressed as all manner of characters.

I visited #PendonMuseum yesterday. The Vale scene is amazing. As usual I spent more time looking over the village scene rather than the trains. The standard of modelling is exceptional.

Just discovered modelbrickyard.com, so spent an hour mocking-up a small 1:76/OO industrial unit that will be a low-relief building on the backdrop. I’ll need several of these in different sizes. Nothing precise at this point - just counting bricks.
