I guess it wouldn't exactly solve the original problem, but you can pair one dongle with both mice which is cool

I like the Logitech devices that used the unifying receiver because they are pretty much always paired correctly and you can switch all your peripherals' computer connections physically. Not sure about the USB C one tho, I haven't used it.

Also false negatives (folks not hired who should have) are often considered lower cost than false positives (folks hired who shouldn't have) so that's what interviews optimize for.
