This is basically my setup right now - I figured out a really elegant formula for getting this kind of non-Euclidean 1D -> 2D curvature, as well as a really elegant parameterized implementation for it
However, I don't know why the implementation works, so I can't easily apply it to a 2D -> 3D plane
