The clock is bad because there is no real midnight. Things can always get much worse for those who survive under ever worse conditions. Exception maybe being total nuclear war, where we wouldn't even have time to update the clock.

I think any solution to apathy needs to include a better allocation of responsibilities for the administration of the commons. Where people with the expert knowledge or passion can and must decide on their specific fields.

I have no idea how to even take a step in this direction.

It gets worse of you are an expert (or at least very passionate) in a subject, where your opinion and vote is worth the same as everybody else's. And when choosing representatives, you vote different concerns together, turning some into barganing chips, usually for eocnomic policies, that rule all.

IMO, apathy is linked to systemic complexity and a perception of low share of resspensability and impact. You can talk (ever more with social media) about a long range of issues, but your voice will be heard by a couple hundreds, your vote is one in millions, no real impact.

This is the proxy people are using to read your intro and immediately discard it.

Btw, I don't want to sound discouraging here. If you believe in the project of AI assisted physics, go learn computer science and physics. Study for years until you can check the math yourself. Go for it, really.
June 9, 2025 at 3:24 PM
You are asking for expert feedback. You want someone to "check the math".

Latest consensus in computer science is AI cannot produce sensical math, whatever combination of models you use. When this changes, it will be in a top paper journal, not a single person on the internet.

I think your excitement, the time you've spent on this, and your distance to the scientific community, is blinding you to the context of what you are asking for here.

You are asking her to put expert human work to check AI generated content, for a stranger on the internet, for free.

Ah yes, the research for the Call of Duty fandom video. Good to see it's going well.

I work in a scientific institution in Germany and let me tell you, these people are prepared to receive all the braindrain scientists they can

Don't underestimate your reach. I think a response from you could really help. But also, it's totally understandable if you want nothing to do with it.

Great addition to the Nebula team. Very happy about it.

I was literally thinking this week that you belong in Nebula. Congratulations. Subscring right now.
