3/4 They ran two Foldscope workshops after which the smaller kids went home with their own microscopes to continue their scientific journey; and with the youths, they had a conversation of how they ended up being scientists (spoiler: by chance, not linearly, and with the help of oh so many people!).

2/4 Clarice, Mateus (a Ph.D. student at École polytechnique) and Paulo (a researcher at Instituto D'Or de Pesquisa e Ensino) "showed and told" what it is to be a scientist.

The Casa Jose Coltro has consistently been awarded the title of one of the best Brazilian non-profits, with their school tutoring program for kids and tweens, and their professional training of youths from 14 to 59!

2/2 at the @cienciapioneira.bsky.social Instituto D'Or de Pesquisa e Ensino Quantum Biology School. Peter Hore is, of course, the master on all things bird-magnetoreception!

Like birds of a feather, here's Clarice, Pedro Alvarez, Matheus Arana and, in the foreground, the unmistakable Peter Hore from Oxford, all peaking at the class going on

3/3 and the realization that we are all doing science every day, from optimizing cooking recipes to using physics to improve our chances to score a goal in soccer!

PS: The throwable microphone was incontestably the coolest thing in the room!

2/3 In the program: an impromptu design, based on a student's interest, of an experiment to check how hierarchies form in maned wolf communities; how to distinguish fake news from real science; why ChatGPT will not take away scientists' jobs;

As part of the @cienciapioneira.bsky.social Instituto D'Or de Pesquisa e Ensino Quantum Biology School, Clarice & Pedro a dear scientist friend went to a public school in Paraty to talk to the students about what scientists do.
quantumbioorg.bsky.social
2/2 This school is probably the world's first. The goal was to educate an interdisciplinary cohort of scientists and scientists-in-training about quantum biology and its myriad implications and applications.

The slides will be publicly available shortly.

Non-science update from the @quantumbioorg.bsky.social: Our very own Head of Biochemistry, Dr. Brian Ross, got married last week!

Please join us in celebrating this joyful milestone and wishing Brian and his partner a lifetime of happiness. 🎉

2/2 The physicists heard Clarice's take on why magnetic field effects in biology might be driven by quantum sensing happening within proteins.

In the cocktail following the talk, she was asked (twice!) if she rapped -- apparently she talks fast

Clarice gives a seminar at the 2025 Paraty Quantum Information Workshop!

This traditional school cum workshop has been happening every 2 years in Paraty for the last 20 years.

1/2 Clarice and Arizona State University uber-physicist Paul Davies were interviewed by the lovely Pauline Davies!

Guess what their favorite topic was? Quantum biology and the origin of life...

Clarice attended a Breakfast for Women in Science at the Quantum Biology School, where everyone shared stories and experiences on how to make science more inclusive not only to women -- science is for everyone!

3/4 This gap strikes at the heart of quantum biology. Without tools that can directly measure quantum effects in living systems, many theoretical ideas remain untested. Building the experimental infrastructure to finally close this gap is central to our mission.

She is being interviewed by Marcelo Souza from
@cienciapioneira.bsky.social Instituto D'Or de Pesquisa e Ensino about the Quantum Biology School in Paraty, Brazil!

She ended by recommending her favorite books -- "Life on the Edge" for Quantum Biology (which in Portuguese became "A Vida no Limite: Como o Mundo Quântico se Comporta Quando Ninguém Está Olhando"); but also anything by her favorite Brazilian author, Fernando Sabino.
