Crow's jaw now properly works while fitting my glasses! The beak clacks were very important to me for this costume.

Crow's jaw has never quite worked properly, due entirely to the modifications needed for my eyeglasses. With a little ingenuity and foam clay, I made a new platform on the jaw and tightened the elastic straps.

Finally complete, Crow was enjoyed (and feared) by many at Bicolline. All the engineering and hard work paid off.

There are many mistakes and problems that need to be fixed, but I have an entire year to update and improve.

Just hours before we left for Bicolline, the hood was attached to Crow's head. Finally, he was ready.

I only got three hot glue burns in my haste.

The first full try on of Crow. The hood wasn't attached to the head yet, but everything else fit and worked!

Cutting fur sucks.

The tunic and skirt coming together. Each layer of feathers is offset from the row below and sewn with a band of bias tape. This took so long. It was also around this time when my sewing machine started acting strange and all work moved to my mom's machine.

Lacking time, I had to come up with a way to pattern Crow's hood alone without a head stand. While chaotic and confusing, patchworking scraps of fabric together to create the shape did the job. Though, with the hoop neck, I'm not sure the duct tape method would have worked anyways.

With some ingenuity and foam, I was able to make the @crystumesblanks.bsky.social corvid mask compatible with my eyeglasses.

The elastic chin strap kinda worked, but I'm working on an improvement for 2026.

The process of picking the method to make Crow's feathers was a long one. In the end, none of the methods shown were chosen, and I ended up going with a classic bag lining.

Process of the Spirit of the Crow gloves.

They're not perfect, but any problems can either be fixed with hand stitching or covered with talons.

I found the Angelina Ballerina book that started my love of costumes so very long ago.

Fitting the 3D printed talons for the Crow. Thanks to my dad and his 3D printer!

When you get your fabric samples in and sigh wistfully at the inspiration they bring you, knowing full well that you won't have time to begin such ideas until next year.

Mockup of the handkerchief skirt for the Spirit of the Crow.
I'm going to remove a panel when I make the final skirt. This is too much gathering to show off the feathers properly.

I can't begin to tell you the relief I felt when I discovered haringbone tape.
