Baby Cooper's Hawk in the yard looking ferocious. This is in between bouts of trying to catch a squirrel but it's not very good at flying yet. #birding #nature #photography

Summer in #Colorado means getting to visit American pika in the alpine tundra ⛰️ Since they don't hibernate, they spend all summer collecting plants to survive the long mountain winter. Despite looking like mice, pikas are actually a member of lagomorpha...the rabbit family! 🐇 #nature #photography

#tbt to spring migration and warblers heading through Denver. The western (Audubon's) Yellow-rumped Warbler subspecies breeds in the Colorado mountains. This eastern (Myrtle) individual is one of many who come through Denver each year, resulting in hybrids along the front range. #birding

Harris' antelope squirrel at the #Phoenix Zoo enjoying a snack gifted by the child observing in edge of photo. I know we shouldn't feed wildlife as a general rule, but it was very cute seeing the crowd of future naturalists intently observing this little guy 🏙️🐿️ #urbanwildlife #nature #photography

Escaped Denver cold for a few days in the desert. Even though I could never deal with their summers, Phoenix seems like a great city with lots of opportunities for nature lovers. Here's one of the many Costa's Hummingbirds we saw at the stunning Desert Botanical Garden 🏜️ #birds #phoenix #arizona

On these cold days I'm thinking about last summer at a friend's amazing garden. Here is a Calliope Hummingbird, smallest US breeding bird, coming to her black & blue salvia. Not a native plant to CO but doesn't spread invasively from the planters and the hummers love it!🪻

#firstpost I found out in Dec that I got picked to be part of the Colorado Outdoors 2024 #photography issue. Here is the image selected: a Dark-eyed Junco in Conifer, CO. If you see a bird with food in its mouth during nesting season, it's likely taking it to its young nearby! #birding #addBirder
