as soon as i posted this i was like, wait. there's no reason china COULDN'T access cotton. and i know there were significant periods of time where hemp was used primarily for paper rather than fabric. and i know ramie was used but i don't think it was as dominant in china as it was elsewhere....

well i stand corrected; cotton was introduced to china circa 1300 and brought about a revolution in women's income and status in cotton production areas, and supplanted hemp as the fiber of choice for common or cheap clothing

considering xianxia settings are time-wibbly i guess cotton gets a pass!

idk that james hong is the man i would typically go to, for casting the wise shifu in a cultivation sect, but voice-wise i really believe in his ability to sell the right amount of "wry" and "kids these days", idk

it's just like, it feels like one thing for a fic author to capture a character's voice so well the audience can basically hear the actor's performance while they read, but this is an OC! the author hasn't said shit about casting this dude in their head! but my brain is VERY FIRM on this!
