you're confusing terms: culture (i.e. language, custom, story, art, & song) has existed very well for 100k+ years in many forms; civilization (i.e. city dwelling, god-kings justifying conquest) is at best 10k years old

tracing motivation w/in an entirely dysfunctional society is an exercise in futility. when violence is made a state/government monopoly people devolve into partisans arguing for THEIR right to violence & others' illegitimate use of violence. the system is designed for the results it produces.
