To be fair, I do understand that there is time and a cost associated with physically locating the records, digitizing them and so on...but the fees could be more reasonable.
Accessing history should be easier & less expensive.

To be clear, that's CBC's price. Not Library and Archives.
Before I'm even allowed to use the audio I must provide detailed context about HOW I will use it...even before I've heard the audio or know if it's relevant to my series.
Then I'd have to get back to Archives with permission. Sigh.

I recently used AI to translate a documentary into French. Thankfully, I’m fluent. The AI completely made up entire sections of new, historical events, which never happened.
