Local groups - grassroots collectives, community groups, small nonprofits and others - are invited to apply for up to $1,000 to help power their advocacy.
Why we’re launching this microgrant program - We know our movement's power lives in grassroots organizing - in trans and queer people and allies taking action on the local level to create change. We also know local organizing is chronically under-funded, but that every dollar invested has an outsized impact. We want to help you power-up, and in so doing, scale the response to the Government of Alberta’s attack on freedom, rights and healthcare access for transgender people. That’s what this program is all about. Alberta Trans Advocacy Micro-Grant Program - Key Information Purpose: To support grassroots efforts that build and support community in response to anti-trans legislation and policies. This program is focused on empowering advocates to take action to help restore rights, freedom, and healthcare access for transgender Albertans. Program Objectives: Strengthen grassroots organizing Change hearts and minds across Alberta Bring political pressure to bear on the Government of Alberta Eligibility: This microgrant program is open to grassroots groups, collectives, community groups, union locals and non-profit organizations with an annual operating budget under $100,000. We know there’s a lot of doom and gloom in the air, but you give us hope. Our opposition wants us scared. They want us to defeat ourselves - to fall prey to hopelessness and despair. We won’t. Our community is resilient. Our movement’s history is defined by overcoming the odds, time and time again. We’ve done it before. We will do it again. Stay strong, stay hopeful ❤️

Alberta Update: Our Campaign is LIVE! Thanks to you, we have brought together $70,000 to fuel our campaign in Alberta, including almost $50,000 contributed by individual donors. Our radio ads are officially live across Alberta, and campaign flyers will be sent out to tens of thousands of homes across the province within the month. We will also soon unveil a new program to help power-up grassroots advocacy. Because of you, we are able to show up in a big way for trans youth and their families in Alberta. Thank you!

Premier Smith's new legislation invokes the Notwithstanding clause to knowingly strip trans youth of their charter-protected freedoms. If we let her get away with this, trans youth will be denied healthcare they need, forced into the closet at school and banned from their school sports teams.
This is a crisis for trans youth and their families. If Premier Smith is not stopped, youth will be: Stripped of their charter-protected rights and freedoms. Unable to access evidence-based and medically-necessary healthcare Denied the freedom to be themselves and use their chosen name and pronouns at school without parental sign-off. Unable to participate on the school sports team or little league associated with their gender.

We need bring our message to Albertans of all kinds, in every corner of the province. So far, they've only heard Premier Smith's lies. We need to reach them with the truth - and help them understand what's really at stake. We have a plan to do just that.
What's our plan? 1) Support, resource and scale grassroots activism, in partnership with activists on the ground. 2) Mail flyers to rural Albertans homes to make clear the danger of Premier Smith’s anti-freedom and anti-rights agenda. 3) Place ads on billboards, airwaves and TV screens across the province. We can't stop Premier Smith with Instagram posts bouncing around the same echo chamber. We can't rely solely on the courts either. This is our moment to turn the tide. To reject government overreach and empower everyday Albertans to speak up with us for freedom, human rights and evidence-based healthcare. With your help, we can make it happen. To stop this assault on rights and freedoms, to cease government intervention in the medical decisions of Albertan families, we need to reach beyond the echo chamber.
To stop Premier Smith, we need to reach and empower Albertans from all walks of life who believe in freedom and human rights, and who oppose government overreach. We need to reach them where they’re at. On the morning radio as they drive to work. In their mailboxes. On their TV screens. And on the doorstep.

Last Tuesday, Premier Smith did something that should appall anyone who believes in freedom and human rights. She introduced legislation to suspend the charter-protect rights of a vulnerable group: trans kids. Alberta, land of the free, is now less free and less safe for trans youth.
Premier Danielle Smith is using the full weight of her government to restrict the rights and freedoms of transgender Albertans and deny youth access to life-saving healthcare. Why? Because she’s power-hungry. She wants to remove checks and balances on government, and impose her personal beliefs on everyday Albertans. In the face of an existential threat to fundamental rights and freedoms, we need to scale our response.
