You know someone at ESPN is salivating over the "AI Play of the Day" featuring Michael Jordan playing hockey against Babe Ruth.

The mp3, as initially sold, offered significantly lesser sound quality, but you could easily buy a single song. As a means of distribution, it offered independent and emerging artists new ways of reaching an audience. It was a democratizing force, which remains the broken promise of streamers.

But instead of condemning the delivery medium (be it physical of digital), I'm more likely to point the finger at predatory anti-consumer and anti-artist practices by the bean counters. No matter the era, you can point the finger at greedy corporations screwing their clients as harbingers of change.
