I got locked out of my apartment in 5 degree F weather this morning and when a neighbor I don’t even talk to woke up and saw me asking if anyone with a key was home she asked how long I’d been out there and ran outside in a bathrobe despite having PLENTY of time to bundle up. People are pretty good.

(Also yes this is *partially* my fault for not having my keys glued to my body every time I step out i suppose but why the door handle lets you freely open the door from the inside when it’s actually locked is beyond me, it’s as though it is designed for this exact scenario)

I will usually lock the deadbolt lock from outside as I leave so I know the door is not locked when I step out unless I have my keys in my hands. I have a system so I don’t have to think about it and I won’t lock myself out. I just didn’t consider someone ELSE locking me out, I was planning for me

The silly reasons were: when I step out for <3 mins to take trash out or check mail I’ll shut the door but not lock it. Last night bf engaged the lower door handle lock which I normally don’t use at all bc I can’t tell if it’s locked from the inside. & when the door shut behind me it locked me out

I am very, very fortunate to be where I am with easy access to this stuff and employer insurance where they can just. Like. Casually order a $5k test and only charge me $30 for it. That is not lost on me.
My brothers are uninsured, so they just have to worry about the possibility for now

Quite relieved that the surgeon got through to him about that last bit, so happy to hear the recovery time is way less than expected, scared for him anyway. You probably know how it is if you’ve been on this planet for more than 2 days
