In the US housing is commercial real estate, where do you live?
November 26, 2025 at 4:30 PM
Ok, I’ve just heard “the vacant housing” crisis in the city my whole life used as a talking point to disenfranchise certain neighborhoods and support landlord and investor interests in others
November 26, 2025 at 4:26 PM
Wait we can talk about vacant housing when it’s the kind that bothers you personally? I thought Baltimore doesn’t have vacant housing per earlier replies? This is not a serious conversation

What I’m hearing is gentrification being justified using trickle down economics, which is Baltimore’s bread and butter. It’s never worked, it fractures strong communities and allows predatory big businesses to move into the market with less friction

What does it matter how many hypothetical units a building has if they are too expensive to live in, and sit empty?
November 26, 2025 at 3:27 PM
These new units displaced thriving communities filled with people I love, so they have absolutely negatively impacted me.

We do see rents and vacancy increasing in these buildings. And we saw the affordable housing that was there before.
November 26, 2025 at 2:11 PM
What does that have to do with what I said? Id love to see occupancy data for luxury apartment complexes built over previously affordable housing, that would be relevant.

Thank you, this is such a huge problem in Baltimore. We have so many available housing units that no one can afford to live in. Just empty apartment buildings replacing what used to be an affordable neighborhood.
