Miss Rathbone reveals a lifelong secret, and the surviving residents seize their moment, arthritis allowing, to scamper freely in the warmth of the summer sun. 'Violet? She'll be having a little lie-down,' said Mrs McBryde. 'She likes to give her pacemaker a rest. I'll rout her out.'

Sleeping Dogs is a compelling addition to the Adam Tyler series, though it works well as a standalone too. The plot is engaging and expertly constructed, offering a complex but not overwhelming mystery with well-paced reveals. One of the highlights for me was Mina, who steps up in her boss Adam Tyler's absence. Mina is a strong, resourceful lead, though Adam's character still makes an impression through the story's timelines. The balance between personal struggles and professional challenges made both characters feel nuanced and real. The story unfolds across three timelines: one from 24 years ago (offering important context), Adam's starting six months ago and progressing steadily, and Mina's in the present day. There are also multiple PsOV. The transitions between timelines are smooth, and the layering of details is masterfully done— although I occasionally had to flick back to double-check which of the recent timelines I was in. Sleeping Dogs has left me eager to dive into the earlier books in the series. If you enjoy character-driven mysteries with intricate plots, I highly recommend giving this a try! Below the review at the bottom left is a red ribbon with four gold stars on it indicating a 4/5 star rating.

The world-building is rich and imaginative, vividly transporting readers into a unique and vibrant world. Protagonist Kavithri endures so much, yet remains tough, gritty and adaptable. She never looses her humanity and it's impossible not to root for her. The plot takes Kavi through a series of challenges and many twists and turns, her adaptability allows her to pivot much better than I did - as a reader I was on an emotional rollercoaster. I did love, however, that the plot kept me guessing! The story's intensity isn't for the faint of heart, there's visceral violence and a torture scene which was difficult reading. I'd have loved a glossary to help with the rich terminology; easier to flick to than pausing to look things up. Overall a fantastic immersive read with a strong and likeable protagonist. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Here are some slides detailing my background and reading habits, including how I approach the many reviews I look forward to sharing with you!

Greetings and felicitations fellow book lovers! I humbly introduce myself to you, I am Quirinus an ancient god who - as an immortal - has a slim chance of getting through my TBR in this lifetime! Let me share with you my love of both fiction and non fiction books, through the medium of social media.

The text beneath reads: “Rome was founded by Romulus and Remus (twin sons ot mortal mother Rhea Silvia who was raped by the god Mars). Romulus became the first joint ruler of Rome along with Sabine King Titus Tatius. Atter a reign of 37 years, Romulus died in a whirlwind (either murdered by his Senators or raised to heaven by his father) and a cult following developed. This cult merged with those who worshipped Quirinus and some believed that in death Romulus had become Quirinus; this could be one of the earliest known cases of identity theft. Quirinus complained to his trade union representative. He was upset that he - a bone fide god - was being usurped by a demi-god who had been raised by a she wolf (deities can be such snobs). He opted for early retirement with a salary matched pension. Remember: if you're in employment, always join a trade union!” A beige slide with a silver ID card. The picture is of another ancient silver coin depicting the head of Quirinus he has a long beard and long hair both fall in soft waves. He is wearing a crown of laurel leaves.
