Most Brits, I reckon, want to feel a part of something bigger: a Britain that is whole and together. The quickest way a nation feels that way again is in the face of a foreign threat. But it's not the healthiest thing for human beings in the long run.

This is rather cynical, but if we're thinking of efficiency, then it has to be an 'Us vs. Them' tale, 'them' being countries like America/Russia disrespecting and trying to compromise our sovereignty. Counter the far-right version of 'Us vs. Them', poison far-right affiliations to the US and Russia.
