In this case they’re Sea Wolf which was frequently proposed in this sort of installation during the 80s. One limiting factor is that the hangar roof gets used for all manner of electronics, most of which don’t react too well to launch debris.

Also “shine a light on it” was used as a method to try and get an idea of aircraft features that dominated RCS, before computing methods and hardware were available.

Well this is a problem and means that, much like with other model testing (ship resistance for example) there is a minimum scale you can possibly go to. This model was 1:50 and to examine radio comms antennas was using microwave frequencies. Fortunately MW covers a couple of orders of magnitude!
