This European Waste Reduction Week, we are renewing our message: we must reduce our e-waste by buying less, repairing what we have, and reusing it responsibly 🪛✊

According to the latest Eurostat data from 2022:

💶💻️ 14.4 million tonnes of electrical & electronic equipment was put on the market and 5 million tonnes of e-waste was collected

🗑️ This equates to roughly 11.2 kg of e-waste collected per person
November 25, 2025 at 1:18 PM
📈 WEEE is one of the fastest growing waste streams within the EU today, increasing by around 20% each year.

🪨🪙 Reuse of WEEE is essential as many of these products contain critical raw materials and other metals that will be sought after to fuel the transition towards renewable energy
November 25, 2025 at 1:18 PM
It's the 2025 European Week for Waste Reduction 🚫🗑️

This year, the campaign is focusing on WEEE (or e-waste) which is right in our ball park!

We'll be sharing stats on our waste problem and what we can do to solve the issue together throughout the week.

Stay tuned 👀

🚨 1 week left until @microsoft.com ends free, automatic support for #Windows10, resulting in around 400 million PCs being unable to upgrade.
October 8, 2025 at 10:43 AM
📢 We’re calling on Commissioners @jessikaroswall.ec.europa.eu & @hennavirkkunen.bsky.social to put an end to premature software obsolescence — for all devices with a plug or battery 🔌🔋
October 1, 2025 at 9:26 AM
💻 The end of Windows 10 could cause over 700 million kilograms of e-waste. This is just an example of how the widespread practice of software obsolescence threatens European consumers, environment, and digital sovereignty.
October 1, 2025 at 9:26 AM
500+ orgs from around the world - including US PIRG, @therestartproject.org, @ifixit.com, Euroconsumers, Repair.org and Consumer Reports - are advocating for repair and reuse by signing an open letter to @microsoft.com, calling for them to extend free and automatic updates for Windows 10

No more devices designed to fail before their time!

🔜 We call on @ec.europa.eu to introduce Ecodesign requirements for laptops mandating at least 15 years of software updates

🔜 Beyond laptops, we need ecodesign requirements securing software and security updates for the full technical lifespan of all products with a plug or a battery
September 25, 2025 at 3:54 PM
📢 This is why current legislation falls short:

- Ecodesign rules secure 5 years of updates, but only for #smartphones & tablets
- Demanding that updates be “as long as it can be reasonably expected” is vague and unenforceable
- Cybersecurity rules leave loopholes for “short-lived” devices

❌ Clearly, the E-waste won’t be solved by corporate goodwill.

Corporate promises and temporary fixes won’t cut it. We shouldn’t have to fight company by company, device by device. We need strong, enforceable laws to guarantee long-term software support.
September 25, 2025 at 3:54 PM
⏰ But let’s be honest: this is just a 1-year snooze button.

👉 It’s hidden
👉 It’s too short
👉 It’s too small

📢 @microsoft.com, we need free, automatic updates until at least 2030, not a temporary reprieve.
September 25, 2025 at 3:54 PM
💥 Big news: @microsoft.com confirmed that #Windows10 users in the EEA will get 1 more year of free updates if they log in with a Microsoft account.

🌟 This is a win worth celebrating. Our campaigning, writing and chanting forced one of the world’s #tech giants to act.

🚨4 weeks until @microsoft.com ends free support for Windows 10, making 400 million PCs obsolete. And - ironically - it's happening on #EWasteDay, just days before #RepairDay.

We don’t have to accept fast tech. Communities worldwide are repairing, resisting, and demanding better ✊ find out how below

With #Fixfest coming up this week, we thought we'd highlight a couple of sessions that focus on our shared struggle for a real #righttorepair. This includes a massive round-up of R2R around the world, and another session focusing in on progress in the UK.

How many times have you heard "repair is just too expensive"?

Too often, consumers are pushed towards replacing a product rather than repairing it because of expensive repairs and spare parts.

It's time to do something about it! So our coalition has developed a proposal to address these concerns 📝

How many upgrades do we have left? Let’s end fast tech

ORA data shows that by repairing >1,300 small kitchen items, community repairers have saved almost 34,000 kg of CO2e emissions in France alone!

Just weeks before new rules for smartphones were set to take effect, we learned that the European Commission has proposed a “corrective legislative act” that would weaken your #R2R and effectively scrap the requirement for user-replaceable displays.

🗑 Unsold goods are too often destroyed by manufacturers before reaching consumers because disposing of them is often cheaper than storing, reselling, or reusing. It fuels overproduction, overconsumption and resource depletion and it's time to end it.
