Art. I draw and paint a lot. (I did a drawing a day in 2024.) This year I’m listening to records and drawing little pictures of the covers.

Here are my mini drawings of what I listened to this week.

I enjoyed drawing most of them but the most fun was Leonard Cohen.

(The most difficult was Beck.)

I can only identify about four of these myself but I’m sharing this post because they’re such good designs.

WIN a set of postcards of TV crime series as Penguin book covers. Simply guess which series is depicted on each cover. The earliest was broadcast in 1969. All originated on TV (so no Morse, Marple etc). Email [email protected] & I'll pick three from a digital deerstalker. Deadline: 10 Oct.

Richard Thompson
(guitar, vocal)

One of the best things about living in Sutton in the early 2000s: so many excellent CDs the library were selling off.

I’d not heard this for years & I’m seriously enjoying it: a really well judged mix & the unreleased stuff is easily up to the standard of the rest.

I had a little look online and it looks like her name was sometimes spelt Jacquey Chappell and she later starred in Evita for a while in the 80s.

Not much more than that as far as I could see.

… no Twiggy!

I wonder what became of Jackie Chappell?

Owing to the indisposition of
TWIGGY, the part of Cinderella will be played at this performance by
JACKIE CHAPPELL

An irresistible charity shop item I bought today.

A 1974 panto programme… what a cast! I’d have been particularly thrilled to see Roy Kinnear, and of course Lenny the Lion.

But…

I’ve just listened to this lovely creation from @mulgraveaudio.bsky.social and I think it’s really something to treasure. Sandra Kerr’s music is so perfect.

Thanks to everyone involved.

My little drawings from last week.

Including a few albums featuring Danny Thompson on the bass.

I most enjoyed drawing Bob and the Band’s ‘Basement Tapes’, and the Fall’s ‘Code: Selfish’.

I think I’ve made the Radiohead man look much happier than usual.

The Gabriel albums were a treat to hear again - I think his second LP is my favourite.

Not so sure about Genesis… lots to enjoy but I found the keyboards a bit grating!

As it is Nathan Adler’s 30th birthday I thought I’d let him have a look around the house and a little play in the garden.

I really want to record a cover of this.

From Border Television and a studio that is clearly too small to accommodate a piano and an audience, Tony Hatch and Jackie Trent perform "Emmerdale Farm".

I agree with this:

Well, @andreworton.bsky.social’s Black Archive on Castrovalva is cracking. Layers of stuff about mathematics (Gödel, Escher, Bach!), ontology, Borges, Bidmead’s use of science within a morality play, a brilliant chapter on television studio space and storytelling. An absolute must read! #DoctorWho

I was also unimpressed with the small white character and the way they were partly blocking Mr Beck-and-Catch’s leg.

I thought “Beck-and-catch? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of that… what does it mean?”

Week 52 brings a demonic Peter Egan, an all-powerful Robert Morley, a Shavian Billy Connolly and a thoroughly mediocre Saturday morning.
