It might have. One of the Bretton Woods outcomes was that gold was fixed at $35 per troy ounce. That ended under Nixon in ‘73because countries like France or just using dollars to buy gold and essentially rob us. Who knows what would’ve happened in the 60s if the US couldn’t sell gold?

I believe several of his loans with Deutsche bank, require that he maintains certain amounts of operating cash in reserve. I can’t remember where I read it, however. My assumption is that he wants to maintain control of the cash so that it counts on his books for the purposes of his other loans.
