This was a great session - it's important to talk about the challenges affecting our field. Great to have some practical advice on how we can assess risk, safeguard ourselves, our research, and our communities.

Having a great time at Flux Congress #flux2025 in Dublin talking about all things Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience.
If you missed the symposium that I presented in, not to worry, there's a preprint of our review paper here: osf.io/preprints/ps...

It is a study about estimates, based in the Cognitive Estimation Test which used similar style of questions. Just like the original, we expect the estimates will vary with age, education, nationality etc and that's not a problem for the research question. :)

for this reason, we chose topics that people would not likely know much at the outset. If people can guess the answers already, then we would not include these questions in stage 2.
rachaelelward.bsky.social
:) thanks - we are doing this to get a baseline of what people would randomly guess before we teach them about these topics. in stage 2 of the experiment we'll be teaching people about the coventry blitz and seeing the estimates move. We're then interested in forgetting and how the estimates regress

Please share 🙏🏼 we're running a fun study that takes ~10mins. We want people to estimate things, like how much a piano weighs? We know most won't know the exact answer but we're interested in your guesses. It's honestly quite fun and you'll get the answers at the end.

Doing a fun study on people's guesses – like how many litres of air do people breathe in a day? No googling! Just your first guess!
There's 6 topics ~20 questions each.
You’ll get to see the answers at the end!

We'd love a big sample – feel free to share!

Does anyone have any examples of illustrations (not diagrams / models / charts) in scientific papers? Research related to child development or psychology would be especially helpful, but any examples would be welcome. Thank you

Trying to run a university department without skilled administrative support staff is like trying to run a football club with only the players.

In contrast to the wide spread applause that this piece seems to be getting, I disagree with a lot of what is said here.

Depending on the theoretical model, perhaps Chidi would have an imprecise understanding of pizza and he would be more likely to confuse it with bruschetta.

My dog, Franklin, interrupted my lecture recording and made me laugh so I had to re-record. He seems worried about the assignment <3
