This fits with my arguments that anxiety is inherently a social emotion +working towards well-being needs to take a holistic approach, using arts and humanities research look for prevention (as directed here) as well as intervention and cures. #anxiety #society www.artscouncil.org.uk/blog/how-do-...

What’s interesting about Jim’s observations is that the gov strategy is around university regionality and local focus and yet students/unis are not included in gov civic/community conversations and initiatives. #Makeitmakesense #skystorians #Academicsky wonkhe.com/wonk-corner/...
Students are being othered again - and everyone loses out
Other than “raw” economic growth, the other big theme at Labour Conference 2025 has been on communities, place and social cohesion.

Come join us in January 2026. This year’s theme is Big and Small (though papers can be on any topic).

I’ve gone for comfort/discomfort + letter writing for my paper, with the Big/Small highlighting the stress placed on each in 18th c. letters.

What are you thinking of topicwise? #skystorians #18c

I think you have missed the point I was making - it is not about using it, it is about understanding it. If you understand it, and think about it critically and ethically, you are unlikely to use it and you can justify why.
rachelbynoth.bsky.social
100% - they also often do not have the knowledge to know when the information is not right or helpful
rachelbynoth.bsky.social
I do not entirely see it like that but I can see why you would see it in this way. Regardless, AI is something that is in the world and should be critically discussed and ethically considered rather than avoided entirely, even if it is not allowed to be used in some contexts.
rachelbynoth.bsky.social
We tend to get students to learn what it is and how it works and most tend to come to these conclusions on their own. AI literacy for me comes from being able to explain why you are not using it (by understanding what it does and doesn’t do) and when it is used, justify why.
rachelbynoth.bsky.social
I don’t like that it just focused on Chat-GPT. The free version which is more problematic but all some can afford (issues with equality) and also it’s often not the Gen AI supported in institutions. Students - we will aid your Gen AI literacy, with, and most importantly, without using Gen AI tools.
rachelbynoth.bsky.social
Maybe let academics and universities teach students about/how to use Gen AI for their HE activities rather than generally putting out broad and uncritical advice to students who could easily fall into pitfalls and accidental misuse #skystorians #AcademicSky

How to use ChatGPT at university without cheating: ‘Now it’s more like a study partner’
The ubiquitous AI tool has a divisive effect on educators with some seeing it a boon and others a menace. So what should you know about where to draw the line between check and cheat?

It’s that time again - the Jane Austen festival in Bath! A few tidbits for everyone:

It‘s also the anniversary of my talk on the Bath marriage mart - moving beyond Austen’s Northanger Abbey to uncover a range of experiences + emotions including anxiety, sadness, resolve, excitement and boredom. 1/

Not every benefit has to be related to earnings. And a “rewarding career” is not really about money. In fact I would put health, happiness and relationships above wealth. And of course EDUCATION, which has endless benefits, both directly and indirectly to work and life.

The mind matters.
eicathomefinn.bsky.social
'And to make it more complicated, there are the non-financial benefits such as evidence of longer lifespans and better personal wellbeing than for non-graduates.'

If universities had spokespersons who understood what we do, somewhere in this article there might be a mention of the life of the mind.
We ask the experts: does it still pay to go to university? ‘It’s complex’
The time and money you invest in education should be repaid by a rewarding career, but is that always the case?

For those needing a break, remember letter writing - it provides a space for reflection, slowing down and making connections - let’s learn from those in the past whose communications were not instant, often not free and carefully crafted for meaning, understanding and tone (without emojis!😱 😮) 3/

It also reminds me of my language of the fan workshop 🪭 that I ran at the end of July (with more to come) - and how it ends up being more than just learning the language of the fan. So those of you fluttering your fans, take a moment to look at the history - it might surprise you! 2/

It is not for a few months until the one I have organised so there is not a link to it yet - will share once available. There is a brief mention of various museums including that one. I am open to consultancy to run it elsewhere though.
rachelbynoth.bsky.social
I will say that a lot of the above is media driven rather than expert driven - if promoting the language of the fan, let the historians reveal the truth rather than just discussing the language.
rachelbynoth.bsky.social
With the advent of the #JaneAustenFestival, I have seen lots of stuff around the language of the fan 🪭 It is a bit of fun but if you want the real history, get in touch as my language of the fan workshop will reveal the truth… #skystorians #AcademicSky @bathprestrust.bsky.social @brlsi.bsky.social
