For no reason in particular, I've been thinking about how Timnit Gebru got fired from Google in 2020 for refusing to take her name off a paper called "On the Dangers of Stochastic Parrots: Can Language Models Be Too Big?" And the term 'stochastic parrots' is feeling especially relevant.

You Gov numbers: "Only 16% of Americans think the U.S. military should get involved in the conflict between Israel and Iran; 60% say it should not and 24% are not sure"

It's going to change quickly, but let's at least remember where we started.

And with this, anything that involves numbers is not going to be what a human would expect. Remember the "how many Rs in strawberry?" moment several months ago?

Now think about how many executives want to use LLM based tools to review/interpret scientific studies and financial reports.
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

I'm noticing way more fragrance in cleaning products lately (Dawn dish soap has gone febreeze-y, and I returned Cascade dishwasher pods to Costco because I could taste the fragrance on plates). Is this CPG companies adjusting to post-covid anosmia?

You know the UMG music removal from TikTok is causing problems when all the music I've seen on the platform this week is the Groundhog musical in the style of The Last 5 Years and Tracy Chapman at the Grammys.
