Hey it’s cool, sometimes you need to get 200 pages into a novel before you realize it’s not working and you need to start over. It’s cool. It’s fine. 🙃

Hey it’s cool, sometimes you need to get 200 pages into a novel before you realize it’s not working and you need to start over. It’s cool. It’s fine. 🙃
I see a lot of posts by writers about how excited they get when they see emails from their editors, and as someone on both sides of it, I can tell you, editors get equally excited when we see our writers have sent us their work too ☺️ Fostering stories is such a privilege.

Playing Dragon Age and absolutely obsessed with this mean note I got from a demon I beat.

Talked to my creative writing students this week about structure and plot, and ended up spending a lot of time discussing inciting incidents. It reminded me that MANY early drafts start too early. If you’re wondering right now if your story starts in the right place, ask yourself these questions:

When I was pregnant my husband expressed that one thing he was excited about was playing video games with our future daughter, and five years in I think he underestimate just how much of that time would be spent looking at the different outfits available to his characters.

I have heard this from SO many writers.
And I get it. Getting feedback on writing is a really vulnerable process. It’s almost a defense mechanism to pre-emptively rip off that bandaid.

I tried to explain the plot of Death Stranding to my SIL. I sounded like I was having a stroke. “The guy from the Walking Dead delivers packages and he wears an unborn baby on his chest that can see ghosts.”
Then my husband yelled from the living room, “And Conan O’Brien is in it!”
