quick break from the horrors: if you liked @portersqbooks.bsky.social thread today about commonplace books, and also you’re an enthusiastic weirdo, you might like this collection of notes toward an unfinished project on paradise that’s part manuscript, part art notebook, and part friend-memorial

I took a few mini breaks in December which was good news for standout books

-Bad Language by @suchmayer.bsky.social pulls a language thread through a labyrinth of queer memoir, Torah, Ursula LeGuin, and power

-The Week of Colors is, outrageously, the first Elena Garro I’ve read

a close runner up is this present for me from me: more shelf space
December 30, 2025 at 1:54 AM
the best presents I gave this year were the cost of these goofy small notebooks shaped like cassette tapes: bespoke playlists, “liner notes” handwritten in the notebooks, and a QR code taped to the first page that the recipient could scan to listen to whatever weird shit I threw at them

fun mail from @deepvellum.bsky.social ! yes I do want a short novel by a new-to-me Mexican author that “exposes the pretensions of the upper class, the hypocrisy behind its feigned propriety, and marriage itself as a carefully staged farce,” how did you know

I should probably be studying for a certification exam I’m begrudgingly taking tomorrow but my perfect angel cat* is asleep on my lap and (Th)ings and (Th)oughts is WAY more fun than studying
