Last day of drawing class! ✍️

Finished this charcoal portrait, and I'm glad my teacher encouraged us to frame them. It does make it feel special. 🥰

I added notes about the process in the alt text of the last image.

Red: We started with "The Mirror" by Dennis Miller Bunker.

Blue: Our teacher gave us black and white photocopies of a close-up on the face. I drew gridlines on top.

Green: I drew outlines of the major elements.

Yellow: I did a value study. (My thumbnail was waaay too big 😂)

Brown: Charcoal drawing on tinted paper. I changed some features and added more hair to make her my own.

I did a value study and flipped the image upside-down to assess the composition.

I used a plumb line and blocked proportions to help plot out the gesture and shape of the figure.

Taking a new class, and we've been practicing ideal human proportions, which I'm translating into my illustration style.

Discovered how infrequently I draw adult men, so I'm practicing.

I love volunteering for Art Awareness at my kiddos' school! 🎨

It's a joy watching gears click in their heads as they make new connections. And I learn more, too!

Also learned that my local arboretum has outside wifi! So nice working in the breeze next to a lake.
