Always hopeful yet discontent. Husband to a saint, father to a sister of thought. Living in the Borderland where Manos & Torgo once roamed, avoiding bigoted nudniks as much as humanly possible.
I just learned about the fifth episode using a Wolf Parade song I love as an effective needle drop, so I *guess* I need to give it a try soon?

I would’ve hopped on board sooner if the leads were burly bears, mind you…

Your friend was correct! Sexy cowboy bear time! 🤠🐻🥵
Now I’m picturing you with a nice western-style leather blazer or vest to go with that ensemble….

I regret every time in my youth that I neglected those half price Partridge Family novelizations at Wally’s Paperback Trade-In in favor of a few more comic books.

I don’t think Muschietti really lands a joke (or a needle drop as part of said joke) in either the prior films or these first two episodes. We just veer from corny clunkers to sad cruelty in that charmless manner you described.

The practical FX in episode two were pretty good, though!

A great read as always, Dave. I grew up in Alamogordo around that same time, and it at least had the mountains & White Sands (plus it was close to Las Cruces/El Paso for concerts). My brother moved to Dallas for college - after visiting him there I knew I HAD to escape to an actual city ASAP.

Once I approach the halfway point from the last birthday, I start rounding up to the next age by sheer force of habit.

Christy, they’ve announced that the blu-ray & DVD release on Dec 5th will have both the “M” doc AND the full 2 hour concert by itself, along with a double-CD concert soundtrack. Viva physical media! 🎉🥳

Check out her song “My Kink is Karma” for some delightfully spiteful lyrics. 🤘

Okay, I would definitely like to see that as well! 🫣 Perhaps what I like most about the in-person attractions is seeing other people getting scared & enjoying the overall vibe such reactions generate, rather than going through them myself & being traumatized. A strange sort of voyeurism, I guess.

I like the IDEA of haunted attractions & have some fond memories of them from childhood, but so much of the current ones consist solely of verbal abuse screamed at you & splattering liquids. I want classic monster stuff for in-person frights, not endless riffs on Saw, The Purge & chainsaw threats.

Even as a teen I remember how controversial it was. My mom took me to see it during its original run in our small town; the cashier tried to warn us about the male nudity (oh no!) & blasphemy (yippee!).

It’s been a delight so far. I told my spouse after this week’s episode that the show is pushing all of my favorite sci-fi buttons in style & theme, with such confident direction.

Sometimes Mitch is so friggin’ cute I can barely stand it. 😍🐻😍
For further hot bear goodness, watch Twisted Metal Season 2!

As a former long-term Austinite, my disgust is endless over the damage these invasive scumbags did to the local comedy scene. At least the Master Pancake riffing crew still thrives there, providing exposure to genuine comic talent at their weekly Alamo Drafthouse shows & Twitch streams.

Obviously they’ve yet to discover the joy of watching late night ALF episodes on Laff TV using an over-the-air antenna, or the free 24/7 streaming ALF channel. I’m partial to the Twitch stream of all German-dubbed eps that I recently stumbled across! 🤯

Ah, got it. Frankly, I’m more puzzled about the possible continuity errors regarding the amount of newspapers & debris around the driveway of the kid’s house, as they seem inconsistent at times (& I don’t think it’s due to the shifting timelines). That’s been bugging me since the first screening.

Don’t discount the husband’s earning potential. Dual income, no kids!

I was luckier in southern NM, the bigotry wasn’t pitched at me until a few years later when the folks at Hastings Books & Records felt compelled to let me know I was buying records from “queers” like Prince, Gary Numan & Culture Club. 🙄 No complaints about the Judas Priest LPs I’d also buy, though!

I was such a little weirdo that when I first read that week’s SNL musical guest in the TV Guide description, I thought they misspelled the name of film composer (& “Fernwood 2 Night” bandleader) Frank De Vol!

Seeing them perform for the first time blew my preteen mind, instant fandom for me.

I’m looking forward to whatever they have in store for Justice Gang appearances in the 2nd season of Peacekeeper, starting this week.

Yes, that *would* be a speciality bread!

Oh lord, the instant flood of memories I have just from glancing at that cover! I cherished all of those 100-page DC issues as a kid.
August 13, 2025 at 5:28 PM
I thought of them more as plot conveniences more than holes, and I’m allowing a little leeway due to the narrator’s “recounting” (?) of events. Of course, it’s easy for me to be more forgiving since I really dug the movie overall, enough to watch it a second time already. Great with a packed crowd!
