Statement by Kerry Kennedy
Today, federal agents killed another U.S. citizen in broad daylight in Minneapolis. He was someone's child, he was someone's friend. I, he was doing all he could to protect our greatest values of community and the rule of law. After 40 years of standing up to tyrants and dictators around the world who use violence to suppress democracy, it is horrific that we have to confront this reality in America. My heart is with his family, and loved ones. They deserve truth, accountability, and support. This is also a time for calm. Justice is not served by chaos or retaliation. Transparency, an independent investigation, and the rule of law serve it. As my father reminded us: "Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change the world." This is one of those moments that tests who we are. May we choose moral courage. May we stand for human rights, dignity, and accountability. And may we work, peacefully and persistently, toward the country we know America must be. Kerry Kennedy
