It was (theoretically) doing some kind of recovery on the Mint hard drive partition (here's a photo of it after three days or so). Given that the eventual e2fsck from the Ubuntu partition seemed to pick up almost exactly where the Mint process had progressed to when I gave up on it, maybe it worked?
January 22, 2026 at 3:21 AM
Interestingly, the inode count on that e2fsck screenshot there didn't start until the 680k range, which isn't TOO FAR off of where the first numbers in the weeklong bootup were at when I stopped it today.
January 22, 2026 at 2:09 AM
Okay, a week was more than long enough for Mint to do whatever-it-was on its partition, so I shut it down and booted to Ubuntu instead. Since Ubuntu tried to mount the Mint partition, it wouldn't boot at first, but I was able to run e2fsck on it from the command line and then boot it up.

Man, at least when the Batwoman pilot episode had a newspaper headline about the accident that killed Katherine Kane's mother and sister they went to the trouble of writing an article to go with the headline, even if they re-used some article about Global Wrming for the sidebar article
